I answered him regarding that with what I shall mention to you, so that it may be a treasure for you after my death; for you will need its knowledge to study it with your brothers and beloveds, and you shall take pride and rise above those who boast against you or oppose you, and suppress by it those who differ with you or treat you as an enemy, with the help of God and the will of your Master. It is as follows: To proceed: O my dear son, may God prolong your stay in His recognition, and may He not test you in your religion but protect you, and make you among those who heard and understood, and who believed and verified and desisted [from error]. Your letter arrived mentioning that a man said to you: "Who are you and who is your father?" and asking me to make that known to you.
I consulted regarding this the majestic Sheikh Abu al-Husayn Muhammad ibn Ali al-Jali—may God be pleased with him—the son of our master, the Sheikh Abu Abd Allah al-Husayn ibn Hamdan al-Khasibi—may God ennoble his station—due to him being his successor and our jurist after him, and the men of Aleppo—may God the Almighty guard them. For Aleppo is the Abode of Migration, and from it is the origin of the Oneness of God—Mighty and Sublime. The Sheikh of this group and the exemplar of its people is our master Abu Abd Allah al-Husayn ibn Hamdan al-Khasibi—may God ennoble his station and grant him his desire. He came to Aleppo by intent and took it as a homeland and residence; he came to a free land, loved it, and made its people recognize God—Majestic is His name. Everyone in the Levant, and indeed most of those in Iraq among the Shu’aybite Monotheists, learned from his science and recognized his virtue.
However, there have emerged in this time of ours and grown in the Levant a folk who claim to be scholars and attribute themselves to the house of our master al-Khasibi—may God sanctify his soul—yet they are far from him. This is because they distort his words, change his narration, and say regarding him—may God sanctify him—that which he did not say, and they bind him to that which he did not serve God with. May God curse the speaker of that and its doer, and whoever turned away from his doctrine and path while concealing other than what he manifests.
