This section contains the names of those among the masters of virtue and faith whom my Sheikh encountered—may God specialize them with mercy and pleasure, and encompass them all with forgiveness.

It has been mentioned previously in this epistle that my master, lord, and reminder, Abu al-Fath Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Baghdadi—may God be pleased with him—composed a treatise during the days of his life and made it a testament for me to rely upon after his death. We have presented many chapters from it here, which we have established in their proper places. Among the elite sciences and refined, majestic hearings he deposited within it is this chapter, which contains the names of the men he encountered among the masters of the believers—may God be pleased with them. I have made this a separate chapter and concluded this epistle with it. We ask God the Great, by His knowledge, power, pride, and majesty, and by His Name and His Veil, the noble lord Muhammad and his family, to make us among those who believed in the Truth and spoke it, and to absolve us of injustice and suffice us against its men, and to grant us and our believing brothers success in acting according to what pleases Him, and to protect us from the company of the people of His denial and His adversaries, by His favor and mercy; indeed, He is Near and Answering.

My true father, and he whose slave I am in servitude, the Sheikh Abu al-Fath Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Baghdadi—may God grant him satisfaction and increase his reward and bounty—said: Know, my son—may God enrich your life and avert evil from your sins—that while I was residing in Aleppo, a letter reached me from a son of mine called Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Baghdadi, known as al-Muhalheli, who is one of your virtuous brothers through whose brotherhood you are graced—may God be pleased with him. He mentioned that a man said to him: "Who are you, and who is your father?"
