He rode upon a plank of the vessel's wood until he reached the shore. Suddenly, he was met by a lion. He said to it: "I am Safina, the companion of the Messenger of God." The lion lowered its head, bowed its back for him, and sought refuge in him. So Safina rode the lion, and it traveled with him until it reached a village. When its people saw Safina riding the lion, they were terrified and amazed. He dismounted, entered the village, and the lion bid him farewell while they looked on; it had growled in his face [softly], so he returned the greeting and it departed. The people of the village said to him: "Your affair is a wonder; who are you?" He replied: "I am Safina, the Freedman of the Messenger of God — exalted be his glory." They then magnified him, raised his rank, and asked him for supplication.
