Lo, the prophets were [all] presented with my Walaya; among them were those who hastened to respond, and among them were those who slowed. Those who hastened to respond, He made them Messengers. Lo, my Walaya is the Walaya of God; God the Almighty said: {There, the Walaya is for God, the Truth; He is best in reward and best in outcome}1. That is my Walaya; whoever affirms it has affirmed the Oneness for God and the Prophethood for Muhammad, and whoever denies it has denied the Oneness of God and the Prophethood of Muhammad."

By his chain, raised to Abu Dharr from our Lord Salman al-Farisi — peace be upon him — when the Messenger — exalted be his glory — called him in the house of Umm Salama; we have omitted the citation of the lengthy report here because we included it in the Second Chapter previously in this epistle, which comprises the recognition of Oneness with clarification and exposition.

Supplication of our Master Ali ibn al-Husayn — Exalted be his Glory

(642) My sheikh — may God sanctify his soul — narrated to me, saying: Our Master Ali ibn al-Husayn — exalted be his glory — used to say: "I ask You by the Pre-eternal Adamite [essence], by the Veil-like Noahite, by the Friendship-based Abrahamic, by the Speech-based Mosaic, by the Spiritual Messianic Jesus-like, by the Praiseworthy Muhammadan, by the Lofty Alawite; by You, for nothing is greater than You; by Your Hidden Name which did not appear from You except toward You; by Muhammad, by his station from You; O Ali, O Great One, expand the breasts of the believers and ease their affairs, grant their requests, give them their desires, and suffice them in what concerns them of the matter of their world and their religion in this world and the Hereafter. Do not entrust them to anyone but You; O He whose Throne is in the heaven and whose Sovereignty is on the earth, for whom the prophets are His veils and the Imams are His essence (kunhuhu); O He who possesses me, do not destroy me."
