(635) As the Scholar—exalted be his glory—said: "Be refined, then be religious." So be a refined, knowledgeable, chaste, intelligent, witty, handsome, and clean person. Mend your dishevelment, purify your garments, manifest your renunciation [of the world], and increase in your worship, your humility, and your submission.
(636) The Messiah—exalted be his glory—said: "Perfume yourselves with the perfume of the world, and clean your bodies, for they are like a carcass."
Know that God looks at your action just as He looks at your form. Do not present to God in your action that which He hates. For if you obey God from the aspect where He commanded you to obey Him, and fear Him regarding His Saints with His true fear, and worship Him with the reality of His Recognition, then everything in the Abode is lawful for you. As the Master—exalted be his glory—said: "Even if the world were fresh blood, the sustenance of the believer from it would be lawful."
Know that if you have a righteous deed with your brothers, God shall cast off from you the burdens and the chains. Whoever has no righteous deed with his brothers, nor an action by which he treats God as He commanded him, is not a believer.
(637) As our Master al-Sadiq—exalted be his glory—said: "And there is no nobility for him unless he is a believer." The most upright and beneficial course for you regarding your brothers is to combine the two states: the maintenance of the Outward and acting upon it, and your Consolation (muwasat) for your brothers.
