Our Master said: "O Ishaq, do you believe that I am al-Sadiq?" He replied: "Yes, O my Master, You are al-Sadiq, You are al-Baqir, You are Zayn al-Abidin, You are al-Hasan, You are al-Husayn, and You are the Whole — exalted are Your favors." The Master said to him: "If I am al-Sadiq, then relate from Me while you are witnessing Me in this time of yours, and leave the narration from one whom you did not witness in his time. But the liar, when he wishes to lie, puts his witness far away. O Abu Shu’ayb: what do you have regarding that?" Abu Shu’ayb said: "O Ishaq, did you not testify that the Meaning ascended upon the back of the Mim on the day the idols were cast from the Structure, and you said: 'The Mim is the Throne,' and you said that this verse was revealed on that day so that the believers might know that the Mim is the Throne and the Meaning is the Compassionate who is established upon the Throne?" He replied: "Yes."

Abu Shu’ayb — peace be upon him — said: "O Ishaq, this verse, by the consensus of the people of the outward, was revealed in Mecca before the migration of the Prophet — exalted be his glory — to Medina. So how can you say it was revealed on the day of the Conquest? This is an error on your part; moreover, it has been related from the Messenger of God — exalted be his glory — that when he recited this verse to the Quraysh in Mecca, the polytheists jumped upon him and desired to kill him."

Ishaq asked: "Who then is the Compassionate (al-Rahman), O my lord?" Lord Abu Shu’ayb replied: "Indeed, the Names and Attributes apply to Lord Muhammad, except for our Master Amir Almuminin; for that is a name exclusive to the Meaning (al-Ma'na) and the Mim [Muhammad] is not named by it. Likewise, our term 'the Meaning'—it is not permissible for the Name to be called by it; rather, it is exclusive to our Master the Prince of Bees and cannot apply to the Name. Thus, the Attribute is the Name, and the One Described is the Gate."
