Warning is not taken from God [Himself], but from His actions, so that the proof is established against the deniers from the aspect of justice. This is because He appeared among them in His Essence and addressed them without an intermediary between Him and them. They were intelligent and understanding, possessing the power of hearing and correct sight in which there is no doubt. He said to them: {And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam—from their loins—their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "Yes, we have testified." [This]—lest you should say on the day of Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware"}1. Then after that came the intermediaries, the messengers, the excuses, and the warnings, which are His words: {And they will cry out therein, "Our Lord, remove us; we will do righteousness - other than what we were doing!" But did We not grant you life enough for whoever would remember therein to remember, and the warner had come to you? So taste [the punishment], for there is not for the wrongdoers any helper}2.

(576) In another narration: our Lord Muhammad al-Hamd—exalted be his glory—used to say: "Praise be to God alone, who fulfilled His promise, helped His servant, and defeated the confederates alone." None differed in this narration regarding this supplication in this manner.

(577) The consensus has read that he [Muhammad] recited in Surah al-Ahzab: {And God turned back those who disbelieved, in their rage, they not having obtained any good. And God sufficient was for the believers in battle [through Ali]. And God is ever Powerful and Exalted in Might}3. This is how it exists in the Mushaf of ibn Mas’ud.
