(558) By a chain from al-Mufaddal ibn Umar—peace be upon him—who said: I asked our Master al-Sadiq—exalted be his glory—regarding the words of the Almighty: {And whoever kills a believer intentionally - his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally, and God has become angry with him and has cursed him and has prepared for him a great punishment}1. He said: "O Mufaddal, his 'killing' of him is [against] him; that is when a believing man teaches a science to one of his students and raises him to his own degree and delivers him to it, then the student rejects the speech of his father and denies him—his recompense shall be what God the Mighty and Sublime mentioned."

(559) By his narration: that he asked the Scholar—exalted be his glory—regarding the words of the Almighty: {He it is who forms you in the wombs however He wills. There is no deity except Him, the Aziz, the Wise}2. He replied: "The Name is the Former of males and females however he wills in the wombs, as he said to the disciples: {And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of God. And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead by permission of God. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers'}3. So he is the Former, as he said: 'I create, but the breath is not from me; rather it is from He who is behind me, my God, my Meaning.'"
