As for the Third Shirt: it is His saying: {"Take this shirt of mine and cast it over the face of my father; he will become seeing"}1. He intends by it: the Shirt of the Essence; because this speech occurred after what transpired with his brothers when they said to him: {"Are you indeed Yusuf?"}2—meaning: are You the Meaning? He replied: "Yes, I am the Meaning; so take this shirt of mine"—meaning the shirt of the Essence and the Call—"and receive glad tidings." The completion of the verse indicates that.

{"And cast it over the face of my father; he will become seeing"3. The "Face" here is the Path of Truth. The proof for that is the words of the Almighty: {Everything is perishing except His Face}4—meaning: every path and call is perishing except the path of Truth and its Call toward which the Name points.

His saying: {"he will become seeing"}5 means: come to me as ones possessing sight of him. When the caravan departed, Jacob said: {"Indeed, I find the scent of Yusuf"}6—meaning: the Call has come to you and the wind of mercy has blown away the doubt and the interval.

He said: I asked the Sheikh Abu al-Husayn Muhammad ibn Ali al-Jali—may God sanctify his soul—regarding the "two parents" in His saying: {And he raised his parents upon the throne}7. Lord al-Jali—may God brighten his face—said: They are al-Rayyan ibn Dawfa’ through upbringing, and Jacob through the cloaking of tradition. Glory be to Him who has no father nor son and to whom there is no equivalent. They are one in the status of the Name.
