He said: Know that the eleven are the Tribes (al-Asbat), the children of Jacob; the like of them belonged to Abd al-Muttalib. Benjamin, the brother of Yusuf from his father and mother: it has appeared that he is one of the personages of the Gate, and by the correct narration he is Ja'far al-Tayyar. The "Drinking Cup" (al-saa') is the Gate, the master of the measure of the sciences of God and His recognition.
The words of the Almighty: {"Take this shirt of mine and cast it over the face of my father; he will become seeing. And bring me your family, all of them"}1. There are three shirts: The First: the words of the Mighty and Sublime: {And they brought upon his shirt false blood}2—it is his manifestation as a mortal in the Humanity (al-nasut); it is a lie because of their saying that he is a [mere] mortal. The Second: His saying: {And she tore his shirt from the back}3. The "torn shirt" is Science. Zulaikha is Asma bint Umays al-Khath’amiyya, and she is Asiya. The words concerning her: {And she closed the doors and said, "Come hither!"}4 mean that Zulaikha desired to take the Science of Truth without the intermediary of a Gate or a Veil, but rather to take it from the Meaning. So he said to her: {"God forbid! Indeed, he is my Lord who has made my stay honorable"}5—meaning: the Mim [Muhammad] is God, my Lord who perfected my upbringing. "Stay" (al-mathwa) is Instruction. {Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed}6—meaning he will not succeed who takes science from other than a Gate or a Veil. The Name is a "Lord" through the Meaning. Have you not heard the words of our Lord Abu al-Khattab: "I am the God who is 'deified' by divinity, known by pre-eternity"—meaning: I am a Lord through a Lord and a God through a God; and at that time the Mim [Muhammad] had appeared through him.
