{"Indeed, God rewards the charitable"}1. This is their speech to the Meaning: "You have commanded charity and promised reward for it," after they affirmed for Him the spiritual dimension (al-ma’nawiyya) and declared Oneness.
{He said, "Do you know what you did with Yusuf and his brother when you were ignorant?"}2. Meaning: regarding my recognition and his status from me. At that moment they recognized him when he disclosed to them, and they understood him when he made them hear; for the eyes do not look except according to their capacity from Him, and the ears do not hear except according to their breadth.
His saying: {They said, "Are you indeed Yusuf?"}3. This is one of the indications of Oneness and Affirmation; as He said in another place: {"Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing"}4. None deserves this indication [of absolute identity] but Him, because He is the High, the One (al-Ali al-Ahad), and all besides Him is the single (al-wahid). When they submitted to Oneness and affirmed it:
{He said, "I am Yusuf, and this is my brother"}5. "I am Yusuf" is an indication to His Essence, that He is the Worshipped. His saying "and this is my brother" is an indication to the Name. {"God has certainly favored us. Indeed, he who fears [God] and is patient, then indeed, God does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good"}6. Its meaning: the Veil has favored you by guiding you to my recognition.
{They said, "By God, certainly has God preferred you over us, and indeed, we have been sinners"}7. They intended by that Jacob; meaning that he recognized Your status while we were ignorant of it, so we were sinners in recognition. When they affirmed their sins, he overlooked them and they were forgiven.
