His saying: {[Jacob] said, "Rather, your souls have enticed you to something, so patience is most fitting. Perhaps God will bring them to me all together. Indeed, it is He who is the Knowing, the Wise"}1. He intended by "all together" Benjamin, Judas, and Yusuf—this is in the outward.
In Reality: "Perhaps" means the Meaning—exalted be his glory—may disclose His Name and His Science and what He kept secret and concealed therein.
His saying: {And he turned away from them and said, "Oh, my sorrow over Yusuf," and his eyes became white from grief, for he was a suppressor [of sorrow]}2. The "two Eyes" are the two Orphans; it was [also] said: the Gate and his wing; and it was said: the manifestation of the Meaning specifically—exalted be He—for His manifestation is an inwardness and His inwardness is a manifestation.
His saying "And he turned away from them" means: he returned to the Science of the Inward. It was said: "his eyes became white" means his Meaning raised him to his degree which is higher than the one he was in, so he turned toward it; just as it was reported of Musa that he {turned away to the shade}, and the Shade is the Meaning. So Jacob turned away from them to his Meaning. And His saying: {"for he was a suppressor [of sorrow]"}3.
(544) As it was related of him in the Muhammadan Cycle that he said: "There is a rust upon my heart such that I seek repentance seventy times a day."
His saying: {He said, "I only complain of my suffering and my grief to God"}4. "God" here is the Meaning, and Jacob's complaint is his need for his Meaning. His saying: {"and I know from God that which you do not know"}5. There is no disagreement among the Monotheists (al-Muwahhidun) that the Veil knows of the science of the Meaning that which the Gate does not reach or know.
