This is the speech of Reuben ibn Jacob to his brothers; he was the eldest of them and was the Bringer of Glad Tidings whom Lord Yusuf—exalted be his glory—specialized with carrying the Shirt to his father to the exclusion of his brothers. The Shirt outwardly is the shirt of Abraham the Friend from the raiment of Paradise; Gabriel clothed him in it when he was cast into the fire, and it was transferred from him to Isaac and then to Jacob, until Jacob specialized Yusuf with it, and he was unique in it.
Others said: rather, Judas recognized the separation from the connection and said: "I will never leave the land," meaning: I will never leave this station (manzila), because the "Land" here is the Science of al-Miqdad. That is: I will not leave his science until my father permits me or God decides for me—and He is the Best of Judges, who is Jacob.
His saying: {"Return to your father and say, 'O our father, indeed your son has stolen; and we did not testify except to what we knew, and we were not guardians of the unseen'"}1. The outward and inward of this saying are the same, because they only testified to what they knew2.
His saying: {"And ask the city in which we were and the caravan in which we returned; and indeed, we are truthful"}3. The "City" here is Qanbar.
Likewise His saying: {And We placed between them and the cities which We had blessed [other] visible cities, and We determined within them the [distance of] journey. "Travel between them, by night and day, in safety"}4. The "Cities" (al-qura) are the Orphans, the "Visible" ones are the Nakibs, the "Nights" are the three Evil Eyes, the "Days" are the Manifestations, and the "Caravan" (al-air) are the Monbites.
