His saying: {He has made my stay honorable}1—this applies to Zulaikha; meaning: he made your stay honorable since he made Me known to you and bestowed My Oneness upon you. I have made him know of you that which you do not know of yourself. What is incumbent upon you is to stand where he has placed you, and not to seek that which is not permissible for you. {Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed}2—meaning he will not succeed who wrongs himself and denies the place of the magnified Mim and what he brought in the manifestations and calls.

{And she certainly desired him, and he would have desired her had he not seen the proof of his Lord. Thus [it was] that We should avert from him evil and immorality. Indeed, he was of Our chosen servants}3. This is what we mentioned: she desired him in order to take science from the Knowing Master without the intermediary of His magnificent Veil, but from the Meaning alone. "And he desired her": He guided her to seek the matter from its proper places, and that is the Name; He made her know the greatness of his status and his place, and commanded her to seek recognition and its explanation from him. His saying: {had he not seen the proof of his Lord}4—the "Proof" (al-burhan) is the establishment of the evidences toward which He pointed.

Another answer: "And she certainly desired him"—the outward of this speech in our view is that he married her and she bore him [children], so her status was raised from what it had been. {had he not seen the proof of his Lord}5—the Name; because this statement is a conjunction from Yusuf upon the Mim. {Thus [it was] that We should avert from him evil and immorality. Indeed, he was of Our chosen servants}6. He averted from her the Evil Eyes and immorality. Another aspect: rather, it applies to Zulaikha because she is in reality a masculine personage.
