The words of the Mighty and Sublime: {And when he reached his maturity, We gave him judgment and knowledge. And thus We reward the doers of good}1. The meaning of "maturity" is the will for the manifestation of the Call in its perfection, and "reaching maturity" is the completion of the affair. "We gave him judgment and knowledge"—meaning the Meaning gave His Veil judgment and commanded him to deliver it to His Gate, thus he reached wisdom and science. "And thus We reward the doers of good"—the reward is Recognition.

As He said—and His word is the Truth: {And she, in whose house he was, sought to seduce him and she closed the doors}2. The "Seducer" is Zulaikha, and we have mentioned that she is Asma bint Umays. She had been married to Ja'far al-Tayyar and bore him Abd Allah; then she was married to Abu Bakr and bore him Muhammad; then she was married outwardly to our Master Amir Almuminin and bore him Yahya ibn Ali; and she had been married to Pharaoh in the Mosaic Cycle. It is as if Zulaikha desired to seek of science above what she had reached. She sought that from the Meaning—exalted be his glory—in order to know it. The "Soul" (al-nafs) here is the Name. She desired to know the reality of what she sought without an intermediary, so she "closed the doors" between herself and the Meaning—exalted be His mention—except the door through which she arrived, which she left open and broadcast, and that is Science.

(533) As the Scholar—exalted be his glory—says: "I made so-and-so and so-and-so memorize such-and-such gates of science." Zulaikha did not leave any part of the science she memorized without broadcasting it, except on this day; she concealed it and intended a gate of pure Inward that is not tainted by anything of the Outward.
