{[Recall] when Yusuf said to his father, "O my father, indeed I have seen eleven stars and the sun and the moon; I saw them prostrating to me"}1. The eleven stars are the Tribes (al-Asbat), the children of Jacob outwardly and they are his brothers. Their likeness is what Lord Abd al-Muttalib had in the Hashemite Cycle; they are also the children of Lord Muhammad—eight—and three are the brothers of the Meaning, the children of Abu Talib. As for the Sun and the Moon, they are in this place his parents, who are Jacob and the maternal aunt of Yusuf according to the people of the outward. But in reality, they were the Name and the Gate.

The saying of Jacob: {He said, "O my son, do not relate your vision to your brothers lest they contrive against you a plan"}2. The "plan" (al-kayd) here is against them, not against Yusuf; because had he called them to His Oneness without an indication or a miracle, they would have doubted Him.

{Indeed Satan, to man, is a manifest enemy}3. Satan is the Second, and he would have been able to mislead them had he called them without an established indication for them.

The words of the Almighty: {And thus will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of narratives and complete His favor upon you and upon the family of Jacob, as He completed it upon your fathers before, Abraham and Isaac. Indeed, your Lord is Knowing and Wise}4. This is the saying of the Name, Lord Jacob, by way of concealment and cloaking. Glory be to Him whom no covers can hide.

(528) As our Master al-Sadiq—exalted be his glory—said: "The Quran was revealed while I was aware of its news."
