{Or [it is] like a rainstorm from the sky within which is darkness, thunder and lightning. They put their fingers in their ears from the thunderclaps in dread of death. And God is encompassing of the disbelievers}1. That is the punishment that descends from Gabriel, who is the Gate—peace be upon him—to whom belong the thunderclaps, earthquakes, eclipses, lightning, and thunder. It is the speech that issues from the Gate, and the science that emerges from him which God likened to thunderclaps. It has been related that the Lightning is the speech of the Gate, the Thunder is the speech of the Great Orphan, and the Darkness is the science of falsehood in which they wander blindly.

{The lightning almost snatches away their sight. Every time it lights [the way] for them, they walk therein; but when darkness comes over them, they stand [still]. And if God had willed, He could have taken away their hearing and their sight. Indeed, God is over all things competent}2. Lightning and thunder we have mentioned; when the believer hears that science, he accepts it and finds healing in it, while the hypocrite disbelieves in it and denies it. Had God willed, He would have hastened the punishment for them, but they are delayed until the Day of the well-known time and the determined term.

{O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous}3. These "mankind" addressed are the believers. Worship is for the Meaning, and bowing and prostration are for the Name.

{He who made for you the earth a bed and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to God equals while you know [the truth]}4. The Earth is the Orphans, the Sky is the Gate, and the Water is the Science that emerges from the Gate to the Orphans, and from them reaches the people of the ranks, then the believers. Thus the believer must have a natural disposition for seeking science and a pure mind for listening and striving in seeking increase from it.
