If he is a disbelieving adversary, he sees all his actions and what he earned, and knows that which he is becoming of the degrees of permanent punishment, as Lord Muhammad — exalted be his glory — said: 'It is forbidden for any soul to exit from the Abode of the World until it knows its residence, either to Paradise or to the Fire.'"

(519) It was related from Sudayr ibn Hannan al-Sayrafi — peace be upon him — who said: There was a butcher at the door of our Master al-Sadiq's house — exalted be his glory. I came one day to the house of my Master al-Sadiq — exalted be his glory — and saw him [the butcher] with a flayed lamb before him. He had decorated it with saffron and lead and was whistling over it. He was rejoicing in it with an intense joy and had hung it upon the bone. My wonder at him and his joy increased. I entered upon my Master — from Him is mercy — and offered peace. He said, initiating: "O Sudayr!" I said: "At Your service and Your pleasure, O my Master." He asked: "Did you wonder at the butcher and his joy with the lamb?" I said: "Yes, that was so," and I told Him the story from its beginning to its end. He said to me: "Go out to him and say to him: My Master says to you, what has your father done?" Sudayr said: I went out to him and saw him with a knife in his hand, cutting meat for a man standing over him. I said to him: "My Master says to you, what has your father done?" He replied: "He died, may God have mercy on him." I returned to my Master and informed Him of the news—and He is the Knower of what is in secret and in public. He said to me: "O Sudayr, just as he used to rejoice in him while he was with him in humanity, likewise is his joy in him now that he has reached his hands in metamorphosis." I said: "Exalted is Your power, O my Master!"

(520) It was related: that a man from the Shia used to accompany Muhammad ibn Sadaqa. He had a son who was a nasibi [adversary]. He left a testament to his son at his death, saying: "O my son, when you bury me, dig me up on your very day." Then he died. His son buried him but was preoccupied from him that day.
