(502) It was related from Muhammad ibn Sinan—peace be upon him—that he said: al-Sadiq—exalted be his glory—said: "Indeed God appeared in the form of Muhammad and Ali seven hundred times, calling them to the completion of the Call with which He appeared at the beginning of the Muhammadan Cycle, like for like. In all of that, they affirm the Prophethood for Muhammad but they reject the greatness of his status in luminosity, and that he is the Trustee of God, His station, and His Supreme Name. They affirm the Walaya and the station of Imamate for Ali, but they reject Him in Lordship."
My master the Sheikh Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Baladi—may God be pleased with him—narrated to me, saying: Abu al-Qasim Ali ibn al-Hasan ibn Isa al-Nu’mani—may God have mercy on him—narrated to me from the majestic Sheikh Abu al-Husayn Muhammad ibn Ali al-Jali—upon him be the pleasure of the High King—that he said: "God said: 'I never descended into a house but that the Adversary—may God curse him—descended opposite it.'"
(503) Among the sayings of Lord Muhammad—exalted be his glory: "God never sent a prophet but that He sent a Satan with him; and I asked God to make my Satan submit (yuslima), so he submitted." He also said what all other Muslims have agreed upon: "O God, complete Islam through one of the two Umars: either Umar ibn al-Khattab or Abu Jahl ibn Umar Hisham." Thus He joined him [Umar] to his like, his nature, and his darkness.
(504) Among that is the saying of the Rabbi: "O Muhammad, I have not read a book except that I found within it that for every prophet there is a Pharaoh; so who is your Pharaoh?" He replied: "My Pharaoh is Zaghlul." He asked: "And who is Zaghlul?" He replied: "The one who misleads (yuzighu) the nation from the Truth; and this very hour he shall enter upon you through this door."
