Likewise, when the Adversary was manifest through al-Mutawakkil and al-Mu’tamid, their Gate was Ishaq ibn Muhammad ibn Abban al-Nakha’i, and his Orphans were: Umar ibn al-Faraj (who resided then in Badr), Abd Allah ibn Sa’id, al-A’war al-Harithi, Marwan ibn Abi Hafsa, and Ali ibn al-Jahm (who is Abu Zina), and the three who were cast down from recognition: Abu Abbad al-Basri, al-Hasan ibn al-Mundhir al-Absi, and Habib al-Attar.

Those are the nine parties as they were with al-Mansur and the collective; they are: Zufar the Second, who is the Iblis of the Ibliises—may God curse him. All are his personages, and he is their origin and their misguider. Entering into their number are: Muhammad ibn Wahb al-Shuray’i and Ali ibn Husayn al-Taflis (who is ibn Hasaka), because they both claimed the Gatehood without any proof established for them. Likewise Faris ibn Mahuwayh, regarding whom the order for his killing was issued from our Master al-Hasan al-Askari—exalted be his glory—and the order was carried out.

It was related that he was only named Atiq because of his "antiquity" (itiqihi) in misguidance. Regarding them, God the Mighty and Sublime says: {The Day the Horn is blown and We will gather the criminals that Day blue-eyed (zurqan). ❁ They will whisper among themselves, "You remained not but ten [days]"}.1

His saying {blue-eyed}: meaning black, he is the very black one, of intense blackness, red-eyed with white palms. Whoever possesses these attributes shall not find nobility, for the Almighty said: {And on the Day of Resurrection you will see those who lied about God [with] their faces blackened. Is there not in Hell a residence for the arrogant?}2
