It was related that the Muslims were in their ranks on that day until they felt the earth shaking beneath them, and suddenly there was a sound the like of which they had never heard in greatness. They were terrified by that and came to the Messenger of God in flight, saying: "O Messenger of God, the earth almost sank with us this hour, and we heard a sound whose intensity terrified us; what is it?!"

He—exalted be his glory—said to them: "Do not be terrified, for Gabriel has informed me that he had descended to this earth in the time of the Hann and the Bann. A battle had occurred between them and a prophet among their prophets whom they opposed and fought in this place. God commanded Gabriel to support that prophet with this number of angels who descended with him this day."

Gabriel—peace be upon him—said: "When I descended, I was riding this very horse. When I was upon the earth, it shook from the impact of its hooves. When the horse reached the earth, it recognized the spot where it had first descended, so it neighed. Had it not recognized the earth, it would not have found stability. The sound you heard was the neighing of that horse. So do not be terrified, return to your places, and be certain that God is with you and is your supporter against your enemy."

Then God commanded the two parents, Hamlit and Jamlit, to marry the males to the females. Iblis was one of the males; his name was Azazil. He refused to marry. His father and mother said to him: "Why do you not marry when God—Glory be to Him—has commanded you to do so? Do you oppose His command?"
