al-Rashid said to me : « O Abu Abd Allah, take Abu Nuwas to the treasurer and tell him to pay Abu Nuwas fifty thousand dinars. » When we reached the door, I said: "Walk with us to the treasury to take your reward, for my good tidings to you have come true." Abu Nuwas said to me: "I have no need for it." I said: "Why, my brother? This is a magnificent prize, and when does the like of it happen?"

He replied: "Leave me be. I only praised my Master for the sake of God, not for gain. By God, O Abu Abd Allah, my Master — Mighty and Sublime — has supplicated for me with prayers that are more precious to me and dearer than everything upon which the sun rises."

The tenth chapter is complete. Praise be to God, the High, the Powerful. May God pray upon the possessor of the radiant light and the dazzling miracle, and upon those who follow him among the high ranks, the stars of the revolving firmament — an unceasing prayer as long as an observer looks, a whistler whistles, a traveler travels, and a bird sings.
