It was said to me: You are the most unique of people in the arts of distinguished discourse.
You possess a spontaneity of solid poetry, pearls bear fruit in the hands of their harvester.
Why then have you left the praise of ibn Musa, and the virtues that have gathered within him?
I said: I am unable to praise an Imam to whose father Gabriel was a servant!
al-Rashid said: "Now bring what you praised us with." I recalled what I had first composed, but the praise of him was blocked from me and I could not remember a single verse. I said: "[Shall I speak] regarding you, O Commander of the Faithful, or regarding the son of your uncle?" He realized that I was constrained and that my mind was unable to praise him. He said: "Speak regarding the son of my uncle." So I said concerning him:
A King whose father and mother are from a radiant one, possessing the light of the shimmering star.
He drank Prophecy in the heights of its valley; the water of Messengership was never tainted by Intermingling.
A Light upon Light whose luminosity shimmered, his lamp is at the summit of the Ascent (al-Mi‘raj).
He said: al-Rashid turned to our Master al-Rida — exalted be his glory — and asked: "Is it thus, O Abu al-Hasan?" He replied: "Yes. My father narrated to me from his father, from his grandfather Amir Almuminin Ali ibn Abi Talib — exalted be his glory — that he said: 'Indeed our saints and our Shia who are sincere in our love, when they look toward us and seek to spread our merit, God supports them with the Holy Spirit.'"
