He — peace be upon him — said: "Worship is for the Meaning through sincerity; the Mim guides to God his Lord and grants attainment of His recognition, for the sovereignty is His and in His hand, and the retribution is upon Him."

And the Fast is a true Silence, in which there is no "he said" or "it was said."

The Month of Ramadan is Abd Allah ibn Abd al-Muttalib. The Fast is the Silence which Abd Allah manifested within it. Thus silence became the root of fasting, which is the adherence to dissimulation (taqiyya). Silence means that no one should deliver the science of God to those who do not deserve it, nor broadcast it among those who are not its people. Whoever does so has "squandered" (badharahu) it; and whoever squanders it and casts it to those not of its people is as God the Almighty said: {Indeed, the squanderers are brothers of the devils, and Satan was ever ungrateful to his Lord}1.

(483) It was related regarding Mary bint Amram — exalted be her glory — that Gabriel came to her and said: "Keep silent and do not speak; and to whoever speaks to you, say: {So eat and drink and be contented. And if you see from among humanity anyone, say, 'Indeed, I have vowed to the Most Merciful a fast, so I will not speak today to [any] human'}"2, and that is dissimulation.

(484) And the saying of Lord Mim — exalted be his glory: "If anyone insults you or fights you, do not insult him nor fight him; let the one fought say to his fighter: 'Indeed, I am fasting.'" Lying nullifies the ablution and breaks the fast, as do backbiting and slander. It was said: "Dissimulation is a fortified castle and a defensive shield."

A month of thirty days, whose prohibition is a permission.
