O God, my Master, do not make me like those who were satisfied with it and felt secure in it; for whoever trusted it, it betrayed him, and whoever felt secure in it, it pained him. I exalt You, O God, above what the fabricators say of You, and I seek by opposing them a means [to You]. Support me, O God, with an aid that protects me from participating with the ignorant, and suffice me of the burden of the transgressors, for the heat of the coals1 has reached me for Your sake, and the First ones2 have joined together against me. They equated You with mortals and likened You to idols. Those who were courteous to me before I manifested Your Oneness have turned against me, and I am among them like a prisoner in the hand of an enemy who has gained power over him. As for their ignorant ones, they disobeyed me out of envy and sought to degrade me by turning the faces of men away from me; as for their scholars, they shared with me the faith in You and surrender to You while they knew not. O God, were I to find a defender whose place I knew who could repel from me the aggression of the fabricators against me for Your sake, I would head toward him. Calm, O God, the enmity of time for those who wronged me3 for Your sake. If it has preceded in Your knowledge that he should return to faith in You and surrender, then Majestic is Your praise. You know that I have not turned, since You created me upon Your Oneness, except toward You, nor have I pointed with Lordship to any worshipped one besides You. Among Your beautiful attributes within my faith in You is that You are the Hearing, the Seeing, whom voices do not deafen, nor languages confuse, nor needs fail. Everything that is a secret with us is public with You; what is absent with us is present and witnessed with You. You are the God besides whom there is no deity, the High, the Great. So make firm our feet and grant us victory over the disbelieving folk."
