(446) Among what appeared regarding the killing of Abu al-Khattab, which I added to this section from our Lord al-Mufaddal—peace be upon him: Our Master al-Sadiq—exalted be his glory—performed the Hajj, and he had written to Abu al-Khattab—peace be upon him—ordering him to perform Hajj. When they reached al-Aqaba, Abu Abd Allah—exalted be his glory—appeared to us among his household. Abu al-Khattab looked at the Cycles (al-qibab) as the people of Medina and Iraq met.
Abu al-Khattab—peace be upon him—began saying: "Labbaika Allahumma labbaika (At Your service, O God, at Your service), at Your service, You have no partner, at Your service; at Your service, O God of guidance, at Your service; at Your service, there is no deity but You, the Judge of the Day of Religion, at Your service; at Your service, God of the first and the last, at Your service; at Your service, O God, Possessor of the ways of ascent, at Your service; at Your service, O God, the Noble, at Your service; at Your service, O God, O Possessor of favor and blessings, at Your service; at Your service, O God, the Ancient, at Your service; at Your service, O God, O Possessor of the praiseworthy, glorious action, at Your service, at Your service."
He said: The people broke into a single clamor such that I thought the earth had been shaken. Our Master Abu Abd Allah—exalted be his glory—said: "Cast off the Cycles, for it is not fitting that God be declared One from behind a veil." The report is long; we have shortened this section from it.
(447) From Yunus ibn Zabyan—peace be upon him—from a report we have shortened to this section: Abu al-Khattab sent for al-Mufaddal and his companions while he was then detained at the House of Provision in Kufa, on the night before the Disclosure and the Call. When they entered upon him, they found him prostrating and supplicating with this prayer: "O God, I ask You for consolation from the world and its adornment, and hatred for it and its people; for its good is meager, its evil is stubborn, its neighbors are distant, its joy is distress, its purity is narrow, its new is worn, its blessing is regret, and its clothing is a fitna—except for him whom protection from You reaches.
