When morning came, he dispatched horsemen and men to Kufa until they brought him [Imam Ja'far] before him. When our Master Ja'far entered upon him, al-Mansur rose to the door of his hall, embraced him, kissed him between his eyes, and raised him to sit in his own place while he sat beneath him. He said: "O son of my uncle, I have never ceased longing for you, and I only sent for you out of my longing. It reached me that your Shia and followers have turned away from me. I wish to ask you of a matter, and I ask you to return to Kufa." He stood up and took off the clothes he was wearing and clothed him [the Imam] with them.
The Master — exalted be his glory — had said as he left Kufa while at the villages (al-dasakir), with his Shia and followers around him, each being affected by the matter according to his rank in knowledge: "Do not be afraid. I shall enter upon him and he will rise for me, welcome me, sit me in his place on his throne, apologize to me and say he only longed for me and thus sent for me, and he shall take off the clothes he is wearing and clothe me with them. Among what he shall clothe me with is a garment lined with white silk, embroidered on the outside and embroidered with a black lining." The hearts of the Shia and followers were thus gladdened. Then al-Mansur ordered for him ten chests of luxury Khorasan silk, rakhanja, and the like of fine Egyptian cloth, along with three hundred thousand dinars and what would carry them, and a mount from his own stable. He permitted him to depart that same day and did not delay him.
The Master left and reached Kufa on the tenth day of his departure. Those of his Shia and followers who were there came to congratulate him. A man from the elders of the Shia and notables of Kufa, called Wahb ibn Suleiman al-Sakuni, said: "I heard from my lord Abu Abd Allah Ja'far ibn Muhammad — exalted be his glory — on the day he bid us farewell at the villages a statement which I have kept, and I wish to verify it."
