The Master — Majestic is His power — was silent from speaking, while the Lord Name — exalted be his glory — guided to Him and pointed to Him. Success and gain are for those who believed among the people of obedience and response; and woe and destruction are for those who rejected and disbelieved after hearing this call. May God protect us and you from them, and keep us firm in His knowledge by His favor and mercy.
The first of the Gate’s calls — peace be upon him — is what appeared from Lord Salman in the report known as the "Report of the Reins" and what he said in the presence of our Master Amir Almuminin — exalted be his glory — after the Lord Name Muhammad — exalted be his glory — had vanished and He had appeared through the Gate — peace be upon him.
(440) It is what Sheikh Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Baladi narrated to me, saying: The reliable youth Abu Sa'id Maymun ibn al-Qasim al-Tabarani — may God sanctify his soul — narrated to me: The reliable sheikh Abu al-Husayn Muhammad ibn Ali al-Jali — may God brighten his face — narrated to me, saying: My sheikh Abu Abd Allah al-Khasibi — may God ennoble his station — narrated to me, saying: Ja'far, known as al-Qasir al-Basri, narrated to me: Ja'far ibn Muhammad ibn al-Mufaddal ibn Umar al-Ju'fi narrated to me from Abu al-Tayyibat Muhammad ibn Ismail ibn Abi Zaynab al-Kahili from Jabir ibn Yazid al-Ju'fi from Yahya ibn Ma'mar ibn Umm al-Tawil al-Thumali from Abu Khalid al-Kabili from Rashid al-Hajiri from Safina Qays ibn Warqa from Salman the Persian — peace be upon them — who said: When the people devoted themselves to the Calf and pledged allegiance to it on the Day of the Saqifa, I spoke and delivered a sermon, saying in Persian: "Karuwayd wa takruwayd wa haqqi amiri al-nahli bibardi" [In some manuscripts: Kurdi wa nakirdi, wa haqqi amiri al-nahli nabardi; in others: Kardi wa nakardi, wa haqqi amiri Almuminin bardi]. At this, the folk jumped upon me all together and twisted my neck as one twists Ukaz leather.
