He said: "Tell him to enter." When his eye fell upon him, he jumped toward him, embraced him, sat him by his side, kissed him between his eyes, and said: "By God, you are the Perfect Will." He said it thrice. Al-Hasan ibn Qaran asked: "O my lord, what did you mean by your saying 'the Perfect Will'?"

He replied: My lord Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn al-Mufaddal ibn Umar narrated to me from his father al-Mufaddal ibn Umar al-Ju'fi—peace be upon them both—who said: A man recited in the presence of our Master al-Sadiq—exalted be his glory—the words of the poet Jarir:

Lower your gaze, for you are of Numayr; you have reached neither Ka'b nor Kilab.

Had you placed the hearts of the Banu Numayr upon blocks of iron, they would have melted.

Al-Sadiq—exalted be his glory—said to him: "Hush! May God break your mouth. Indeed, God has the Perfect Will regarding Numayr and He shall manifest it even after a time. By God, this is the Perfect Will beyond doubt." At this, all who were in his presence jumped up and kissed the hands and feet of my lord Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Nusayr. We remained sitting with him for three days, then we rode to the house of our Master Abu Ja'far the Second—exalted be his glory—Majestic is He whom no place contains. He [Umar ibn al-Furat] was not in the habit of riding. We found that those who were with my lord Abu al-Sahl on that day had preceded us. Our two lords1 entered, and the group entered, I being among them. When we were in the presence of our Master, He looked at my lord Abu Ja'far and said—exalted be his glory: "O House of Numayr, O House of Numayr! The Will is completed in Abu Shu’ayb Muhammad ibn Nusayr. O Abu Shu’ayb, you are its first Shuaib and its second Shuaib; you are its first Salman and its second Salman."
