Then the speaking Master manifested as al-Hasan al-Askari the latter, and the silent one was Muhammad the Proof (al-Hujja). The eleventh Meaning was al-Hasan, the Master of the Army, and his Veil was Muhammad the Proof. The Gate is a part of Him, he being Abu Shu’ayb, because he is of the Magnificent House. He served in two Risings for the two Masters of the Army [al-Hadi and al-Askari], just as Safina served in the era of the Messenger—exalted be his glory—and for our Master Amir Almuminin—exalted be his glory. Lord Abu al-Qasim Muhammad ibn Nusayr was a servant to our Master al-Hasan—exalted be his glory—while before him was the Hoped-for Qa’im, Muhammad the Proof. Abu Shu’ayb is one of the personages of the Name; the Gate returned to being a hidden luminous being when the Veil Muhammad intermingled with him and vanished with His occultation—Exalted is He who never vanishes. At the start of the Adamite Cycle, the Ancient Meaning was Abel—Exalted is God, the High, the Great—the Name was Adam—exalted be his glory—and the Gate was a hidden luminous being. The Meaning al-Hasan vanished just as He vanished when He was Abel, and there remained Abu Shu’ayb, the Mim, when Muhammad the Proof intermingled with him, just as Adam—exalted be his glory—was at the beginning of the manifestation—so know that.
We have mentioned previously the proofs of the Gate and his emigration—peace be upon him—explaining the emigration of our Lord Salman from the lands of Persia to the Hijaz, as well as the emigration of our Lord Abu Khalid Abd Allah ibn Ghalib al-Kabili from Kabul-Shah to Medina. There remains the mention of our Lord Abu Shu’ayb—peace be upon him—and his emigration from Basra to Baghdad; we shall explain what we have known of that by the success of God.
(420) This is what my master Abu al-Fath Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Baghdadi—may God sanctify his soul—narrated to me by his chain from his men—may God be pleased with them—from the Orphan of the Religion of God, Fadwayh al-Kurdi—peace be upon him—who said: Our lord Abu al-Sahl Umar ibn al-Furat—peace be upon him—sent me on some of his errands and important matters to Basra.
