They looked at him and looked down upon1 his state. He reached a river that was in his path; he entered it to its middle and took a wooden bowl that was hanging before him and threw it into the current of water. When it grew distant from him, he called out to it in Persian: (Biya, biya—Come, come). It returned to him, so he stretched out his hand, took it, and crossed the water to the other side. When they saw this from him, they submitted to him and surrendered.

(411) Our Master al-Sadiq—exalted be his glory—was asked regarding the "Holy" (al-Quds). He said: "The Holy is Salman, and as for the Holy Spirit, it is Muhammad—exalted be his glory—because the Spirit is the life of the Holy."

(412) He—exalted be his glory—was asked regarding Salman. He said: "The Rope of attainment, the Eye of knowledge, the Path of salvation, the Veil of the Name, and the Straight Path."

(413) He—exalted be his glory—was asked regarding the word of the Almighty: {The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down, upon your heart, that you may be of the warners, in a clear Arabic language}2. He—exalted be his glory—said: "Whoever wishes to look upon the Lordly Spirit, let him look at Salman; and whoever wishes to look upon the Divine Soul, let him look at Lord Muhammad—exalted be his glory."

(414) He—exalted be his glory—was asked about the Inception and the Will? He replied: "They are the Veil and the Gate, and they both belong to the Meaning—exalted be his glory." Regarding the words of the Sublime and Exalted: {Indeed, His command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it, 'Be,' and it is. So glory be to Him in whose hand is the sovereignty of all things and to Him you will be returned}3, he said: "The Kaf is Lord M (the Name) and the Nun is the S (the Gate)."
