When He said that to him, He delegated the affair to him, so the Sublime and Exalted said: {And whatever the Messenger has given you—take; and what he has forbidden you—refrain from. And fear God; indeed, God is severe in penalty}1. God the Almighty divided the inheritance shares but did not assign anything to the grandfather; so the Messenger of God gave him a sixth, and God permitted that for him. God forbade wine specifically, then the Messenger of God—exalted be his glory—forbade every intoxicant from any drink, and God permitted that for him. The Messenger of God—exalted be his glory—used to grant Paradise on behalf of God, and He would permit that for him, which is His word: {This is Our gift, so grant or withhold without account}2—meaning: give or deny. God the Mighty and Sublime delegated His religion to Muhammad—exalted be his glory—just as He delegated kingship to Solomon ibn David."
(408) It is related from Hannan ibn Sadir al-Sayrafi from his father from Zadan, the freedman of Salman—peace be upon them—who said: A man from the Shia of the Banu Hajar fell ill. My Master Salman visited him while I was with him. We entered upon him as he was in the throes of death. My Master said: "O Angel of Death, be gentle with this servant." Suddenly, a voice from the side of the house said: "O Abu Abd Allah, I am gentle with every believer and stern with every disbeliever."
(409) As for the sign manifested by our Master Amir Almuminin—exalted be his glory—concerning the death of our Lord Salman, which is famous among the world by consensus: He informed Umar ibn al-Khattab and other companions while they were sitting with him in the mosque of the Messenger of God—exalted be his glory—of his [Salman's] passing in al-Madain. He traveled on the night of Friday from Medina to al-Madain, accompanied by Qanbar, until he reached it. He prayed over him, took charge of his preparations, buried him, and returned to Medina covered in dust.
