He said: 'Ascend to me.' I ascended and served him for two full years. When death approached him, he said to me: 'I am dying.' I said: 'To whom do you leave me?' He said: 'I find no one in the world who speaks my word. The birth of Muhammad has drawn near; so when you reach him, convey my greetings of peace and deliver this tablet to him.' When he passed away, I washed him, shrouded him, and buried him. I took the tablet and left. I joined a group of people and said to them: 'Provide me with food and drink, and I shall provide you with service.' They said: 'Yes.' When they wanted to eat, they would tie up a sheep and kill it by beating, then make part of it roast and part of it kebab. I refused to eat with them. They said: 'Eat.' I replied: 'I am a boy of the hermitage, and the folk of the hermitage do not eat meat.' They beat me and nearly killed me. Some said: 'Refrain from him until your drink comes.' When the drink was brought, they said: 'Drink.'

I said: 'I am a boy of the hermitage; I do not drink wine.' They fell upon me and wanted to kill me. I said: 'O people, do not beat me, for I affirm servitude to you.' I affirmed servitude to one of them, who took me and sold me for three hundred dirhams to a man from the Jews. He asked me of my story, and I told him, saying: 'I have no sin except that I love Muhammad and his successor.' The Jew said: 'I surely hate you for my hatred of Muhammad.' He then took me outside his house to a place with a great amount of sand at his door and said: 'By God, O Rozaba, if morning comes and you have not moved all this sand from this spot, I shall kill you.' I began to toil all night. When exhaustion overcame me, I raised my hand to the heaven and said: 'O Lord of my beloved Muhammad, by the right of Muhammad and his successor, my two means to You, hasten my relief and have mercy on me in what I am in.' God sent a wind that uprooted the sand from its place to the spot the Jew wanted. When morning came, he saw that the sand had all been moved and said: 'O Rozaba, you are a sorcerer and I did not know it. I shall remove you from this village lest you destroy it.' He took me out and traveled until he reached Medina and sold me to a Jewish woman. She loved me with a great love.
