Then he vanished and manifested as Dan ibn Isba’ut ibn 'Amaliq. The meaning of his name Dan is that he is "near" (danin) to the Meaning—exalted be his glory—and the Name. Regarding him, God the Sublime and Exalted says: {Reclining on couches whose linings are of silk brocade, and the fruit of the two gardens is near (danin)}1. That is: the fruit of their harvest is near; meaning he harvested the knowledge of both and thus manifested the signs, proofs, and miracles.
He remained speaking with every House that manifested by the command of God upon His earth, guiding to the Name, his Master, and calling to the Pre-eternal, his Meaning. He was likewise calling to the "Meaning of the Eyes," our Master Joshua ibn Nun—exalted be his glory—whom illusions and suspicions cannot encompass; and with Caleb ibn Jephunneh (Yuna), Ezekiel ibn al-Ajuz, Samuel, Saul, David, and Solomon; and with our Lord Asaph ibn Berechiah—exalted be his glory—and with Job and Jonah ibn Amittai: he being Dan, and he being the Gate.
Then he vanished and manifested as Abd Allah ibn Sim’an ibn Abi Israel. He remained speaking with every House God manifested upon His earth for His servants, guiding to the Name, his Master, and calling to the Oneness of the Pre-eternal, his Meaning. He was likewise with Isaiah ibn Amoz (al-Khtub), and al-Khidr (who is Elias)—exalted be his glory—and Zechariah; and he was with Dhu al-Kifl because he "took charge" (kafila) of Mary; and with John (Yahya).
(390) It is he who said—exalted be his glory: "I inserted Jesus into his mother’s womb as an insertion." John, when he said that, was an Exemplary Meaning—exalted be his glory.
Then John vanished, and the Meaning—exalted be his glory—had manifested as Simon Peter—exalted be his glory—in Essence; Majestic is He whose Essence does not resemble other essences. Abd Allah (the Gate) vanished and manifested as Rozaba ibn al-Marzuban the Persian. The meaning of Rozbah is: the recognition of the day (roz) of the Knowers; and the meaning of bih is "good" in Persian.
