Idris—exalted be his glory—said to them: "He is my Gate through whom I am approached. What he manifests to you, its substance is from me and by my command he originated it. What Yail learned from me, its substance is from my Meaning and my God who commanded me with that." At this, the Knowers affirmed him and believed in him, while the ignorant disbelieved in him and turned away.

He remained manifest and speaking with everyone who manifested the Oneness of his Meaning. He was likewise with Idris, Methuselah, Lamech, Noah, Shem, Arphaxad, Ya’rub, Hud, and Salih. He then vanished and manifested as Ham son of Cush son of Arphaxad son of Shem son of Noah. He was named Ham because he is a protector (hamin) throughout the ages alongside the Meaning and the Name.

Our sheikh and jurist Lord Abu Abd Allah al-Husayn ibn Hamdan al-Khasibi—may God ennoble his station—said: "He was only named Ham because he is the intimate (hamma) of the Meaning and the Name," according to the words of the Almighty: {So for us there are no intercessors, nor a devoted friend (hamim). Then if we only had a return [to the world], we would be among the believers. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not believers. And indeed, your Lord—He is the Mighty, the Merciful}1.

He manifested with Lord Abraham all amusements, the rebab, the saranayi, flutes, drums, trumpets, tambourines, and other instruments of mirth, foreign crafts, movements, types of prestidigitation, and enchantments. He remained likewise manifest in every House that God—Glory be to Him—manifested upon His earth, guiding to the Name, his Master, and calling to the Oneness of the Pre-eternal, his Meaning. He was thus with Abraham, Ishmael, Elias, Qusay, Isaac, and Jacob, and with our Lord Jonah, and with Moses and Aaron: he being Ham, and he being the Gate.
