They are: First, Abu Bakr Abd al-Lat ibn Uthman, named Fasa' because he was the "freedman" (atiq) of Abu Quhafa; when Islam appeared, he was named Abd Allah instead of Abd al-Lat. Second: Umar ibn al-Khattab. Third: Uthman ibn Affan, then Hahtal ibn Abd Allah, Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, Sa'id ibn al-Aas, Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf al-Zahiri, Abu Ubayda 'Amir ibn al-Jarrah, and Khalid ibn al-Walid. Were I to mention all their names and the personages through which they appeared in all the Cycles and their likenesses, the discourse would be too long and perhaps of little benefit. However, the root and the sum is the Iblis of all Iblises, who is the Second; these are from him, and he is their element and the beginning of their misguidance and disbelief.

This epistle contains enough of the Lordly powers and Divine acts pointing to the Oneness of the Meaning—Mighty and Sublime—for him whom God has granted the success to understand this realization.

We return to the completion of the sequence by the success of God the Almighty: Then the Lord Muhammad—exalted be his glory—vanished; he is the Supreme Name, the Noble Veil, and the Magnificent House—Glory be to Him who neither vanishes nor ceases from His being, even if He appears to the sight.

After him, our Master al-Muhsin—exalted be his glory—vanished; he is the Name hidden from the eyes of the deniers. After him, Lord Fatir—exalted be his glory—vanished, leaving the Names al-Hasan and al-Husayn. Our Master—exalted be his glory—manifested the Occultation—Exalted is He far above what they say—at the hand of the tested saint Abd al-Rahman ibn Muljam—peace be upon him. The Meaning—exalted be his glory—then removed our Master al-Hasan and appeared in the likeness of his form; thus our Master al-Hasan—exalted be his glory—became an Exemplary Meaning.
