The Orphans of Salman whom we mentioned are the Orphans of the Sovereignty, the most complete of the members of the ranks, and the first of creation. They are those qualified for Service; through them the creation of the higher and lower worlds and the creation of the universe were completed, and through them Knowledge was perfected. They are the five governing planets: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus, and Mercury. They are superior to the Orphans of Lord Muhammad and those who follow them, because Knowledge proceeds from them to those below them in the ranks. The Master—Sanctified is His Name—specialized them with the merit we mentioned, and what we have omitted for brevity.

Since the Orphans are the five planets, we must recognize the personages of the Sun and the Moon. The personage of the Sun is Abu Ubayda Nawfal ibn al-Harith ibn Abd al-Muttalib, the martyr who vanished at Badr. The personage of the Moon is Mus’ab ibn Umayr1, the teacher of the Helpers—peace be upon them.

As for the Nakibs: they are twelve Nakibs, as the Mighty and Sublime said: {And God had already taken a covenant from the Children of Israel, and We sent from them twelve leaders...}2. And His word: {And how many have We destroyed before them of generations who were greater than them in striking power? So they excavated (naqqabu) through the lands. Is there any place of escape?}3. These are the Nakibs who "excavated" into the knowledge of God the Almighty; nothing escapes their knowledge nor is hidden from them.

Footnotes

1Our Master the Prince of Bees said to his household: "O People of the House, which of you will bear for me the blame and public defamation outwardly while being praised inwardly? Even if he is cursed a hundred thousand times each year, I shall make his station the highest, make him among the choice governing stars, and settle him with the Full Moon in the mansions, even if he were the lowliest of the People of the House and the last of them in star-rank in the Highest Kingdom." Mus’ab ibn Umayr said: "I, O my Master, shall bear all of that for You, be named by Your name, and bear the creation, formation, acquisition, and apportioning; whatever falls upon the veil of Your name, I shall bear it." Nawfal ibn al-Harith said: "And I shall bear for Lord Muhammad who is Your name, be named by his name, and bear in that path all that You command me." The Lord—Exalted—said: "Likewise, I shall place what you both bore upon your souls into gold and silver, and grant you the taking and giving, buying and selling, wealth and commerce."
