(373) Likewise he—exalted be his glory—used to say: "Truly that which you see is from the One who is behind me, and He is my Master. I create, but the breath is from the Pre-eternal."
Our Lord Messiah—exalted be his glory—gives life and causes death in word and deed. Do you not know that if a believer imparts the knowledge of God the Almighty to a man and teaches him His wisdom, he has given him permanent life? And if he complains against the opponent regarding a matter of knowledge, he has caused his death.
And His word—the Almighty: {And I cure the blind and the leper}1—that is because the Messianic manifestation occurred in an era where the science of medicine was dominant among its people. So he brought them a dazzling miracle: he cured diseases without medicine, never saying to the patient "take such and such." Rather, when he emerged from the house of worship and those with diseases and defects were waiting for him, sitting at the door, he would pass his blessed hand—without corporealizing or likening—over those with defects and diseases, and they were cured instantly. If one was crippled, he walked; if blind, he saw; if a leper, he was cleansed. Any defect vanished instantly. He would pass his hand—which is not like [other] hands—over the patient and say: "In the name of the Father," and the pain would vanish instantly, and the patient would be healed. The Meaning—glory be to His majesty—is the Father of fathers. Exalted is He who has neither father nor son, and there is none co-equal to Him. His word: {And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead by permission of God}2—the proof of the miracle of Prophecy is to perform an act that the people of his age and time are incapable of matching, and to overwhelm them with what appears from him. The matter then compels them in a way they cannot repel to surrender to him and believe in him at that moment when they witness his miracles.
