(368) What appeared regarding this from the People of Reality: certain folk among the Children of Israel claimed divinity for Moses, thus deserving blame and wrath. It was said to them: "Would you exchange what is less for what is better?" His word: {Go down to Egypt}—this is the Name—exalted be his glory; He commanded them to return to the Name during their straying.

His word—exalted be His praise: {And they were struck with humiliation and poverty and returned with anger from God}1. The determination of the state here applies to those among them who disbelieved after their faith and associated partners in worship between the Name and the Meaning.

Another aspect: the "fruit" and "blessing" they were within was the Inward Science. They cast it aside and disbelieved in it after having recognized it, seeking and requesting the Outward Science. So He said to them: {He said, "Would you exchange what is better for what is less? Go down to Egypt..."}2—because they disbelieved in what they knew and turned toward the Outward of knowledge and accepted it.

The Name—exalted be his glory—manifested as Jesus. He is pure Mim because he is among the nine Essential Mim-personages previously mentioned. The Meaning—glory be to His majesty—manifested in Essence as Simon Peter (Sham'un al-Safa). He is Simon ibn Yunan—exalted be his glory—the Ancient, the Pre-eternal—Mighty and Sublime is His majesty. In the Gospel, the witness for him is "the son of Jonah" (Yuna) without the letter nun at the end; this is recognized from there. The Gate manifested as Rozaba ibn al-Marzuban. The Informed One in this Cycle was called Jesus ibn Maryam al-Majdalaniyya. The Adversary was King Herod and Judas Iscariot—may God curse him—the one who pointed out the Lord Messiah—exalted be his glory. Likeness fell upon him just as it fell upon the Second, and likewise the mutilation on the Day of al-Tuffuf.
