(363) Per the saying of the Master al-Sadiq—exalted be his glory: "The Shade here is the Meaning, and to Him the Name—exalted be his glory—returned." So this Moses returned to his Meaning.

His word: {My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need}1 is proof that the Name—exalted be his glory—returned to his Meaning, and he is the one in need of Him. This is because Safra and her sister Safayra, the two daughters of Lord Shuaib—exalted be his glory—witnessed a dazzling miracle from Moses.

Regarding what the People of the Outward related about the stone upon the well: it could only be uprooted by forty men, yet Lord Moses—exalted be his glory—uprooted it with his hand, watered for them, and then replaced it. They then claimed divinity for him, so Moses—exalted be his glory—recognized that from them and said: {My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need}2—meaning: "I am not that Worshipped one; rather, the Meaning is other than me; He is the one who produced me and originated me, and I am the one in need o.f Him."

Every "shade" in the Book of God the Almighty is praiseworthy, except His word: {Proceed to a shadow having three columns, [which offers] no cool shade and avails not against the flame}3. This shade is blameworthy and it is the person of the Second—may God curse him. Another shadow is His word in Surah al-Waqi'a: {And a shade of black smoke, neither cool nor noble. Indeed, they were, before that, indulging in affluence, and they used to persist in the great sin, and they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? Or our forefathers?"}4. This is a matter of blame for the Companions of the Left.
