When Moses struck and killed him, Moses said: {This is from the work of Satan}1. That is: "your own work brought you to this end, O Satan." If the adversary says: "God bears witness against Moses that he killed the Egyptian, and Moses bore witness against himself," the answer is: the address falls upon Moses ibn Ashyam, who is the Informed One.

The meaning of His word—Majestic is He as a Speaker—recounting the speech of Moses—exalted be his glory—to the two daughters of Shuaib: {And when he came to the water of Madyan, he found there a group of people watering [their flocks], and he found aside from them two women keeping back [their flocks]. He said, "What is your circumstance?"}2. Their answer to him: {They said, "We do not water until the shepherds dispatch [their flocks]; and our father is an old man"}3—meaning: "we do not speak of God's affair nor broadcast it, acting by the command of dissimulation (taqiyya)."

And His word—the Mighty and Sublime: {So he watered [their flocks] for them; then he turned away to the shade and said, "My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need"}4. The meaning of "he watered for them" is that he is the one who taught them, thus watering them and quenching them with knowledge. His word—the Sublime and Exalted: {then he turned away to the shade}—the Shade is the Meaning in this place, and to Him Moses returns. He is the Lord Name—exalted be his glory—in this context, not the Informed One.
