If any trait of mine has displeased you, then draw my garments (thiyabi) out from yours, they shall be drawn.

Meaning: purify my heart from your heart. Another poet said:

I pierced his garments with the solid spear, for the noble is not forbidden to the lances.

This is supported by the word of God the Almighty: {And your garments purify}1—meaning your heart; this is the address of the Messenger to the Informed One (al-Munabba'). And the Almighty said: {And she, in whose house he was, sought to seduce him from his self}2.

As for the seduction and his saying to her: {He said, "I seek refuge in God! Indeed, he is my lord who has made good my residence"}3—its meaning is an indication toward his master, who is the Mim, God the Lordly one; "I have established him for the Call, so take my knowledge from him."

And His word: {And she certainly intended him, and he would have intended her had he not seen the proof of his Lord. Thus [it was] that We might avert from him evil and immorality. Indeed, he was of Our sincere servants}4. This is what we mentioned: her "intending" was to take the knowledge of God without an intermediary of a Gate or a Veil. "He would have intended her" means: he guided her toward the Veil. "{Had he not seen the proof of his Lord}": this is the Argument (al-Hujja), because the Proof (al-Burhan) is the establishment of the evidence for Knowledge, and the Proof is an indication toward it; this is what we have stated.
