The Name manifested as Abraham son of Nahor son of Azar, for Azar was his grandfather and his mother's name was Tarikh. He was manifest through five persons: Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Qusay, and Elias, just as he appeared in the Muhammadan Hashemite Cycle. The Meaning was manifest as Lot, and he is an Exemplary Meaning. The Gate was manifest as Ham—and he is not Ham son of Noah. The Adversary was manifest as Nimrod son of Cush son of Canaan, and his minister Khubal.

The Informed One in the time of Abraham was called Abraham ibn Azar. As for Lot, he was the son of Abraham's maternal aunt. The call of Lot was before Abraham; then Abraham called in the time of Nimrod. Thus it was related by the People of Reality.

As for the Fire into which he was cast: to us, it is the trial (fitna) and not a burning fire. His word—the Almighty—recounting Abraham's speech to Nimrod—may God curse him: {Have you not considered the one who argued with Abraham about his Lord [merely] because God had given him kingship? When Abraham said, "My Lord is the one who gives life and causes death," he said, "I give life and cause death." Abraham said, "Indeed, God brings up the sun from the east, so bring it up from the west." So the disbeliever was overwhelmed [by astonishment], and God does not guide the wrongdoing people.}1

The scholars of Hadith related: When Abraham said to Nimrod, "Indeed, God brings the sun from the east, so bring it from the west," the sun returned from its setting point at the very moment he spoke. Nimrod was overwhelmed by this act, as in His word: {So the disbeliever was overwhelmed}2. This was a miracle he brought them.

As for the "incapacity" (al-ajz): it is what he manifested by their casting him into the fire, and its being coolness and peace upon him. This is a miracle (mu'jiz) because the Meaning—exalted be His mention—if He wills to manifest incapacity, He follows it with a miracle. Likewise, the Name and the believers believe in both and surrender to them.
