He said: {Do you indeed approach men and obstruct the way and commit in your meetings [every] evil? And the answer of his people was not but that they said, "Bring us the punishment of God, if you should be of the truthful"}1—those who were destitute of Knowledge. The "daughters" and "women" are not females, but rather believing men calling to the knowledge of God, the Mighty and Sublime. The wife of Noah is the Humayra, and she is also the wife of Lot—exalted be his glory.
Regarding this, Lord Ismail ibn Muhammad al-Himyari—peace be upon him—says:
The wife of Noah in the Book is she whom the dogs of al-Haw'ab barked at in the early morning.
And the wife of Lot is her peer—rather, her very self; I mean the lineage of the dust of the offspring of al-Shay sab.
And His word: {So We brought out whoever was in it of the believers. And We found not within it other than a [single] house of Muslims}2. It has been related: these were not believers in reality; they were only named "believers" because they believed in Nimrod—may God curse him. So God destroyed them at the hand of Gabriel, who is the Gate—peace be upon him—the destroyer of the denier nations.
And His word: {And We found not within it other than a [single] house of Muslims}3. Those are the true believers; they are those who surrendered (sallamu) and thus were safe (salimu). Another aspect appeared regarding this: the believers are the Muslims, and these two names are joined to the mention of the House itself. And His word, the Mighty and Sublime: {And let not one of you look back}4—meaning: do not pay attention to those who opposed our command and denied the Call of Truth.
