He then manifests at any time he wishes and vanishes at any time he wishes; his dwelling is the heights, and he only descends to the earth if he wills. He passes by a group of his brothers while they are engaged in remembrance, debates them, overcomes them, and argues with them until he bewilders them. When he turns away from them, they say: 'We heard speech like burning thunderbolts and answers like sharp swords; we heard speech yet saw no human.' They speak the truth, for by God, they did not see him but only heard his speech. Indeed, one of them may pass by his brother—they both having heard at the same time from a single father—and this one acted upon what he knew, so he was elevated and saved, while the other knew but did not act, remaining beneath the dregs and the suffering of humanity. At that point, the saved believer says when he sees him: 'By God, this is my brother with whom I used to hear; God benefited me by my striving, while he stayed behind due to his negligence in action. I was elevated while he remained.' He sits with him, talks to him, and consoles him. When the saved brother departs, the one who stayed behind says: 'By God, it is as if I know him, and as if I met him in another place, but he has changed to me.' This is the Path and the explanation of its obstacles, not as the people of deficiency and bewilderment relate it."

As for His word—the Almighty—regarding Enoch (Idris)—exalted be his glory: {And mention in the Book, Idris. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet. And We raised him to a high place}1. This refers to the manifestation of the Meaning in his likeness. This elevation is what we mentioned: he was a Name and became an Exemplary Meaning, not as the commoners relate it.

The Name manifested as Noah son of Lamech—exalted be his glory; his name was Abd al-Ghafir in the reports of the People of the Outward. He was named Noah (Nuh) due to his lamentation (nuwah) over his people and his weeping for them, for he was among the great weepers, and Adam was the first of them. He lived one thousand and five hundred years, of which he spent nine hundred and fifty years calling his people before the Flood, and five hundred and fifty years after the Flood, during which he divided the earth among his children and settled them therein. This is the report of the People of the Outward by consensus.
