After them, the Kharijites were distinct from our Master—exalted be his glory—and came out against him with the sword, opposing him and saying: "It is a small matter," thus disbelieving with a great disbelief. They have imitators in our time who say the same as they said and oppose as they opposed. There is a group of the Sufis who spoke of "the Eye of Union" (Ain al-Jam'), believing that God appears in everything and inhabits everything, even the vinegar worm. Near to them is Zayd ibn Ali the Astrologer, known as the Orphan of Kashka—may God curse him—who is among the enemies of the Truth. Similar to those we mentioned are the Mu’tazilites, for they said: "Muhammad has no intercession and shall not intercede; he did not ascend to the heaven, nor did he practice mutual imprecation with his household." They spoke of the Imamate of the inferior over the superior, thus contradicting the root of the Law by this statement, and they are in disagreement within it, by it, and from it.

Likewise regarding Oneness, there are a people who mention that they are its folk while they are heretics and liars in their speech, distinct from the people of the Truth. They introduce into the doctrine what is not in it and what the scholars have not said nor transmitted from the Masters. The knowledge of Oneness is the knowledge of Truth: recognized and precise, its men are known, its path is clear, its reports point to it, and the Book of God—the Mighty and Sublime—bears witness to it; no part of it nullifies another.

Know that I have only presented this explanation because I saw that innovations had increased and the speech of those who liken themselves to the monotheists had appeared—those who fabricate lies against God. Among these is their saying: "Above the Goal there is a Goal," and if the matter were so, it would be permissible for there to be a Goal above that Goal unto infinity; this is something that is not sound in the intellect, nor has anyone among the people of transmission agreed upon it, and it has no reality in knowledge.
