What was transmitted from him—may God ennoble his station—by his son al-Jali—may God be pleased with him—is: that the Name—glory be to His majesty—is composed of two elemental lights: ancient and originated. The light which is the ancient inward is God the Almighty, the Majestic Name invented from the light of the Lofty Essence; and the originated elemental light, its outward, is the Mim, according to what we presented previously. We were correct, by the praise of God the Almighty, in what we explained and believed in this epistle, which we entrusted by God's favor and aid.

(329) It is related from our Master al-Sadiq—exalted be his glory—that he came out to his companions one day wearing a Herati tunic and said: "As for the ship, it was thus; as for the youth, it was thus; as for the wall, it was thus; as for the two orphans, it was thus," according to what appeared of their story in the Quran. Then a bird chirped after diving into the sea. He said to those present: "Do you know what this bird says?" They said: "No, O our Master." He replied: "It swears that the knowledge of Moses compared to the knowledge of the Sage—who scuttled the ship, killed the youth, and established the wall—is as what the bird took in its beak from this sea."1 It is known to whoever has a heart that the Sage is the Meaning of the Ains, Joshua ibn Nun, and that Moses is his Majestic, Hidden Name.

(330) Among what supports our explanation is what Lord al-Khasibi—may God ennoble his station—related in his book The Distinction Between the Messenger and the One who Sent Him, from our Lord Jabir al-Ju'fi—peace be upon him—who said: I asked my Master al-Baqir—exalted be his glory—regarding the word of the Mighty and Sublime: {It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day. They all swim in an orbit}2.
