Beside them was a Bedouin they did not recognize; he listened to their speech and said: "O people, you related the report of his ascent upon the Messenger's shoulder to the House, but do you know how his descent from the House was? Was it upon the shoulder of the Messenger—exalted be his glory—by a rope, or by a ladder?" They knew not what to answer him. He said: "You have known nothing." They said: "Teach us then what you have regarding that?" He said: "I have no path to that." They all rose and went to our Lord Jabir ibn Yazid al-Ju'fi—peace be upon him—mentioning the situation and asking how the descent of our Master Amir Almuminin—exalted be his glory—occurred?

Jabir wept and said: I asked our Master al-Baqir—exalted be his glory—who said: "O Jabir, when our Master ascended upon the Messenger's shoulder to the House, he uprooted the great Hubal, threw it, and said: 'O assembly of people, every one of you worshipped this besides me, for I never worshipped it.' He cast it from the House with the rest of the idols, then kicked the House with his foot and said: 'O House, vanish, for upon you is the establisher of the houses of heaven and earth.' The House vanished. Then our Master stepped away from it and said: 'Return, O House, to your state, for we have liberated you.' Thus it was named the Ancient House (al-Bayt al-Atiq)."

(328) From him also is what was narrated as a loose tradition from Abu al-Aswad al-Du’ali—peace be upon him: I was with my Master Amir Almuminin—exalted be his glory—marching toward the Kharijites. While we were marching one night, the army surrounding him at the time of dawn1, two men suddenly emerged from a dense thicket2. Our Master Amir Almuminin—exalted be his glory—hastened to them and said: "March on, for you have reached your wish." They asked: "And what is our wish?" He said: "This is the party of God and that is the party of Satan."
