It has been related: that "God" (Allah) is a name for one greater than him, which is the Mim, whose outward is our Lord the most Majestic, most Excellent Messenger—exalted be his glory—and whose inward is "God," the Name of the Ancient, Pre-eternal Meaning.

This is contrary to the position of those who believed the Name is ancient. If they believe that out of imitation without seeking jurisprudence from the people of knowledge to recognize the status of the Name toward his Namer, they have made them a single essence and spoken of two gods by making both ancient. This is what intellects cannot accept; the witness for it is nullified by the fact that the Name would be equal to his Meaning, or the servant to his Master, or the one deified to the Deity. Exalted is our Lord, the High, the Great, and sanctified be His names. Prohibition against this has come in the Manifest Book: {And God has said: "Do not take for yourselves two deities. He is only one God, so fear only Me."}1

And His word—the Mighty and Sublime: {And He does not command you to take the angels and the prophets as lords. Would He command you to disbelief after you had been Muslims?}2

And His word—the Mighty and Sublime: {Say: "What thing is greatest in testimony?" Say: "God is witness between me and you. And this Quran was revealed to me that I may warn you thereby and whomever it reaches. Do you [truly] testify that with God there are other gods?" Say: "I will not testify [with you]." Say: "He is only one God, and indeed, I am free of what you associate [with Him]."}3
