He said to the questioner—exalted be his glory: "They see Ali, the Meaning, Amir Almuminin, manifest in the Form of vast knowledge, having appeared from the eye of the sun with Dhu al-Fiqar in his hand—Exalted is the Compelling King."

(300) It is related that the Lord Mim—exalted be his glory—heard a man supplicating and saying: "O Most Merciful of the merciful (ya Arham al-Rahimin)." The Prophet—exalted be his glory—took the man by the shoulder and said: "Behold, the Most Merciful of the merciful has faced you with his countenance; so ask him for your need." The man looked and behold, it was our Master Amir Almuminin—exalted be his glory. He asked: "Is he He?" The Lord Mim replied: "Yes, he is He."

This is also among His names by which he indicated Him. The Mim—exalted be his glory—also indicated this while he was Jacob in the Josephite Cycle, when he sent Benjamin with his brothers and said: {He said, "Should I entrust you with him except [under the same condition] as I entrusted you with his brother before? But God is the best guardian, and He is the Most Merciful of the merciful"}1. Then he confessed to being a servant by saying: {But God is the best guardian}2 and his saying: {He said, "I will soon ask forgiveness for you from my Lord. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful"}3. When the Tribes entered upon their Forgiving Lord and their Deity, the Competent King, he said: {He said, "No blame will there be upon you today. God will forgive you; and He is the Most Merciful of the merciful"}4. This is a name among the names of the Meaning by which the Knowers invoke Him and through which sinners entreat His bounty.
